Fort Myers: the Gulf coast at a gentler price

River city, gateway to Sanibel and the barrier islands — and a market still shaped by Hurricane Ian.

Who this is for

For buyers who want Gulf water and boat access without Naples prices

Fort Myers sits on the Caloosahatchee River a few miles inland, with the beaches on Estero Island and the shell beaches of Sanibel and Captiva beyond. Edison and Ford wintered here and their estates still stand side by side. Next door, Cape Coral was cut through with four hundred miles of canals so that ordinary houses could have a boat at the back door. In September 2022 Hurricane Ian came ashore here, and the market has been sorting itself out ever since: what was rebuilt, at what elevation, and at what insurance premium.
